School Nutrition
Dawn Dean
Nutrition Program Director
                      912.496.2596 ext 2007

The primary goal of the Food Service Department is to provide all students,
regardless of income level, healthy school meals that meet their nutritional needs
.

All students have the opportunity to participate in the free breakfast program at 7:30 a.m.  Hot well-balanced meals are served at lunch which provide for 1/3 to 1/2 of the day's nutrition requirements.  Students may also choose to bring a bag lunch from home.

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 requires USDA to establish nutrition standards for all foods sold in schools.  This rule carefully balances science-based nutrition guidelines with practical and flexible solutions to promote healthier eating of school breakfast, lunch and snacks.

For the breakfast and lunch menus, please visit
the individual school websites.

Free & Reduced Meal Program
The Charlton County School System participates in the National School Meal Program. Meals are available for free or at reduced prices for those who qualify.  Applications for meal benefits are given to students on the first day of each new school year.  An application may be completed and returned to your child's lunchroom cashier any time during the school year should a family's household income change. An application for Free and Reduced Lunch can be obtained from any school cafeteria cashier.

Students are responsible for purchasing meals at FULL price until meal benefits are approved.  The approval process may take several days.  You will be notified when the application is processed and approved.
